Meet the team...
Brian "The Brain" Holland
Brian’s from Hodnet and been a “Draytonite” most of his adult life. At one point he was a van salesman for Palethorpes.. when they sold their own branded products around the area, so driving and delivering for Buttercross Farm was second nature to him, although we sometimes worry that he gets confused about what he’s driving as he also was a fire engine driver for some time!
Daniel Whitehouse
We’re pleased to welcome Daniel, another recent addition to the Buttercross team, he is currently helping us out for a couple of days a week, and more often when we get busy spells!
David Rogers
David is our tame accountant… we always look forward to his monthly visits, but not always to the news he delivers. His delivery of cash flow, profit and loss accounts, and balance sheets is almost as smooth as the engine in his old convertible MG! Widely experienced in all kinds of business, we’re really grateful for David’s input which always keeps us on the straight and narrow.
Hannah Rowley
Hannah is the younger of Helen & Martyn's children who, like Sam her brother, is semi-involved with the business. Hannah’s hoping for a place at Liverpool University to study bio-Veterinary Science. She’s mad about her pony “Cassy”, loves’ going out and about with her friend. And often helping in the shop, keeping it dust free, and the shelves stacked, the great news is that she’s mastered the till and the dreaded credit card machine!
Helen Rowley
Helen (Martyn's wife!) is a busy girl and either in the office sorting out the Farm's admin or in the Farm Shop. She's got an artistic touch, and puts that to work in the shop to great effect. A qualified veterinary nurse by profession, she also loves walking, training or showing her dogs when not working!
James "Jonathan" Davidson
Not to be confused with Jim Davidson, although not adverse to telling the odd naughty joke. James is in charge of all things marketing… whether it be brand management, website development, customer communications, or PR..James just gets on with it! A relatively new but vital component in the Buttercross Farm machine.
....
James Devaney
James has been in the butchery trade all his working life and has worked within Market Drayton for the past 25 years. We’re delighted that he’s chosen Buttercross Farm to continue his trade. James is the most unflappable character you’re ever likely to meet and doesn’t let any stress show. He’s really fond of his time off with wife Sheila and has recently developed a love of cruise liner holidays….. just hope he doesn’t sail away into the sunset just yet!
Louise Poole
Another recent addition to the team is Louise, whose happy and bubbly personality is a real tonic in and around the shop. She’s managing to get to grips with all the jobs we throw at her, and does it all with a smile.
Martyn Rowley
Martyn's the Managing Director of Buttercross Farm, but more Wurzel Gummidge than in the stereotypical pin striped suit way… he just goes around picking fault with things, but will often talk for hours about his beloved Stoke City, so if you need a chat…?
Matt Porter
The multi-talented Matt joined us 4 years ago to help with pig herd management which he still does today. He’s since shown us a multitude of skills which we’ve gratefully tapped into, so from tractor and digger driver, to fencing and sign erecting, grounds maintenance, and emergency sausage packer… Matt's the man. Also he’s building up his own flock of laying hens and ducks (on the drive side), and keeps the shop stocked with delicious free range eggs.
Mike Dudley
Mike is our most senior butcher and an ever present face in the shop; he ensures the smooth running of the wholesale production at the same time… who says men can’t multitask? When not working Mike can be found around the region playing table tennis really well apparently, but is cursed by a knowledge of really dreadful jokes and quips!
....
Rob Challinor
Rob’s apparently semi-retired after selling up his dairy farm a few years ago… We do our best to keep him off his beloved golf course, by getting him to deliver lovely Buttercross Farm produce all over the region. Without an exception all the customers that he visits love Rob for his polite and gentile manner, which he suddenly loses when it comes to throwing around pig carcases, which he does better and quicker than many half his age!!
Rosco
Rosco has been round more than most, but at 10 years old can be considered a veteran! Often wandering around the yard picking up scraps, he looks nothing like the whirling dervish that he turns into when there’s livestock to be moved! Sadly not the best of herding dogs and is too old to learn new tricks, so we let him get on with things his way, whilst shaking our heads in disbelief.
Ryan Baker
We're delighted to welcome Ryan into the team and hope that with some expert training he will develop into yet another highly skilled Buttercross Butcher! Ryan is a local lad and when not working here is involved in Ashley YFC and all its activities; also being the son of a gamekeer he's always kept busy when he's at home too.
Sam Rowley
Sam's the oldest of the Rowley children and, like Hannah, is also semi-involved with the business. Sam helps out on the Farm when he's back on holiday from University.
Sharon & Jo
The most lively pair of sisters around, and are to be seen behind the Buttercross Farm stand at the various Farmers Markets and food fayres in the region. They brighten everyone’s day and are a wonderful asset to the business. Sharon is a first responder, a self-employed cleaner, into line dancing and eating out and dominoes. Where she finds time to fit in the stall and sales work we’ll never know!??
